Walker Sime Champions The Industry’s Young Talent at the RICS Matrics Awards 2024

We were delighted to support to the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Matrics Awards 2024, held at the Midland Hotel in Manchester in November 2024.

The Awards, known for celebrating the UK’s brightest emerging surveyors, are a platform that empowers young professionals in the industry. The RICS Matrics Awards spotlight the exceptional skill, commitment, and potential, giving winners and finalists national recognition and opportunities to connect with industry leaders and serve as ambassadors for their profession.

Tammy Harrison-Round, Director of Business Growth at Walker Sime, was one of the judges for the Apprentice of the Year category. Tammy, who began her career as a quantity surveyor, brings over 24 years of experience in the construction industry and is an advocate for nurturing young talent. Meeting with ten outstanding young surveyors, she was impressed by their technical abilities, commitment, and positive attitudes. As she reflected on the judging experience she said “The talent coming through is phenomenal. It’s inspiring to see such passion, and it’s clear that the future of our industry is in great hands.”

With a long-standing commitment to supporting emerging professionals, Walker Sime actively invests in apprenticeships across Quantity Surveying and Project Management in the business. We provide hands-on training, mentoring and career advancement and participate in school careers events, helping to create a diverse pipeline of talent equipped to prosper in the construction and surveying sectors.

The awards night was a celebration of the future of surveying, and Tammy was proud to present winner Jordanne Dunn MRICS, a Chartered Building Surveyor at Savills, with the Apprentice of the Year award, as well as congratulating all the finalists. “Presenting this award to Jordanne and seeing the passion and dedication in each finalist is a privilege. Walker Sime believes in empowering the next generation, and events like the RICS Matrics Awards are a perfect way to showcase emerging professionals and give them a platform to succeed,” said Tammy.
