Social Impact

Social Value

For us, social value isn’t an add-on – it’s embedded in everything we do. Our Social Value team is dedicated to working with our clients and local communities to deliver tangible environmental, social and economic benefits.

We are proud to be:

Charity

Volunteering gives our employees the opportunity to play an active role in their communities. Our Social Value team select community projects to support via fundraising, donations and volunteering throughout the duration of our Contracts and, crucially, afterwards. We have recently supported LandAid, The Bread & Butter Thing, Oldham Foodbank, NorthCare Charity, The Whitechapel Centre and the Booth Centre, amongst others.

Inspiring the next generation

We work with local schools, colleges and universities to promote career and development opportunities. Our initiatives include:

  • Collaborating with Muse to offer a 6-week placement to T-Level students from Oldham College each year.
  • Providing work experience for school/college pupils to learn about the various roles in the built environment and gain hands on experience on projects.
  • Employment opportunities for local apprentices.
  • Supporting schools and colleges with their curriculum, attending careers fairs, offering mock interviews and assisting with interview skills and CV writing.

Additionally, as part of our commitment to ‘built environment’ education, we sponsor PLACED each year. PLACED run a free Academy for those aged 14-18 to learn about different roles within the built environment, empowering young people to shape the places we live and work.

Employee wellbeing

Our people are at the heart of everything we do. We believe that when our employees feel supported, valued and healthy, they are better equipped to deliver exceptional outcomes for our clients and communities.

We are committed to creating a positive, inclusive workplace where wellbeing is a priority. Every employee has access to a range of health and wellbeing support, including:

  • Four trained Mental Health First Aiders
  • An Employee Assistance Programme
  • The mProve Yourself wellbeing app, providing practical tools and advice to support physical and mental health
  • Free PSA testing for male employees aged 40 and over
  • Menopause awareness sessions to promote understanding and support

Our commitment goes beyond wellbeing initiatives. We foster a culture where wellbeing is openly discussed, support is readily available and everyone feels empowered to look after their physical and mental health.

Sustainability

We’re all about building better environments. We operate a robust Environmental Management System accredited to ISO 14001, with clear targets to reduce carbon emissions, energy use, waste, water consumption and other environmental impacts. We’re committed to achieving Net Zero by 2030.

See our carbon reduction plan here

We support clients through whole-life carbon and lifecycle costing advice, promote sustainable materials and assess contractors’ environmental performance to help deliver better project outcomes.

Beyond our projects, we actively contribute to our local communities through initiatives such as litter picking and by promoting sustainable travel, recognised with TfGM’s Gold Sustainable Travel Award.

Modern Slavery

We have a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery and human trafficking and are committed to preventing exploitation in our business and throughout our supply chain by:

  • Maintaining robust procurement and supplier due diligence processes
  • Raising awareness through employee training
  • Working only with organisations that share our commitment to ethical working practices
  • Complying with the requirements of the Modern Slavery Act 2015
